Idioms

درس دویست و بیست و پنجم

Tongue-In-Cheek

زبان در لپ

( not serious )

غیر جدی ( بیان کردن یک جک، اگر چه شما ظاهرا جدی به نظر برسید )

Why were you teasing Sonia about her new hairdo?

She really took offense at what you said.

I didn't mean to offend her. I was simply making

a tongue-in-cheek Remark when I said that it was too

elaborate for a girl of her young, tender age.

Well, she thought you were serious. She had no idea that

You were just saying that as a joke. I'm really sorry.

I suppose I owe her an apology.

CONVERSATION

درس دویست و بیست و چهارم

An invitation

Dave:  I have tickets to the soccer match on Friday night.

            Would you like to go?

Susan:  Thanks. I'd love to. What time does it start?

Dave:  At  8:00

Susan:  That sounds great. So, do you want to have dinner at 6:00?

Dave:  Uh, I'd like to, but I have to work late.

Susan:  Oh, that's OK. Let's just meet at the stadium before

                the match, around 7:30

Dave:  OK. Let's meet at the gate.

Susan:  That sounds fine. See you there.

Exercise lowers high blood pressure

Exercise is good for your blood pressure - no matter your

age, weight, race or gender. And it really doesn't matter

whether you get exercise from a brisk walk, a fast run

.or a few laps in the pool; the results are equally good

The studies on which these findings were based used

"aerobic" exercise - activities that increase heart rate and

improve the body's ability to use oxygen. Most of the

studies involved participating in one or more aerobic

.activity for 20 - 30 minutes per session, several times a week

On average, exercise helped study participants reduce

systolic (top number) pressure by nearly 4 mm Hg, and

diastolic (bottom number) pressure by slightly more

than 2.5 mm Hg. But experts caution that those with

extremely high blood pressure should not rely on

.exercise alone to control hypertension

CONVERSATION

درس دویست و بیستم

I really like pop music.

Tom:  Do you like rap, Liz?

Liz:  No, I don't like it very much. Do you?

Tom:  Yeah, I do. I'm a big fan of Eminem.

Liz:  I think I know him. Does he play the piano?

Tom:  The piano? No, he doesn't. He's a singer!

Liz:  Oh, I guess I don't know much about rap.

Tom:  So, what kind of music do you like?

Liz:  I really like pop music.

Tom:  Who's your favorite singer?

Liz:  Celine Dion. I love her voice. Do you like her?

Tom:  No, I don't. I don't like pop music very much.
